Our young and enthusiastic Club was chartered April 12, 1996 and is comprised of approximately 75 members who live and/or work in Mount Pleasant, Sullivan's Island, or Isle of Palms. Our average age is around 40 years young and 25% of the membership are women. We have several events during the year which are not only fun but raise funds for the good of our community. And that "community" is not just our local area but we reach out to people around the world. There is no greater sight than seeing a healthy child go home to Panama or Kosovo with renewed health, a smile, and every prospect going forward of a long and active life. Our involvement in the Gift of Life program makes that smile possible.
We try to positively affect our community in many many ways...and we find that the hard work we put in is rewarded so many times over by the joy we see in others. They know we care and that we are determined to produce a beneficial impact in all that we do. It is not just from our club, but by extension, this caring comes from Rotary clubs around the world.
Some of our projects so far for the 2010/2011 year include:
" Participation in the Charleston Duck Race, an exciting fundraiser that raises money for our Club charities by dropping rubber ducks off the Wando Bridge and racing them down the Wando River to the finish line.
" Gift of Life program which facilitates free medical services to children suffering from heart disease or other serious health issues who would not have a remedy without our help. See video.
" East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) food drive for the needy families in the Mt Pleasant area. See video
" Happy Feet co-op project with Mount Pleasant Lunch Rotary Club, providing shoes to school children
" East Cooper Habitat for Humanity work day
" Rotary Work Day to provide assistance to Water Missions International, a non-profit Christian engineering organization serving the water and sanitation needs of people in developing countries and disaster areas.
